My Lazy Days

Mostly about the Kids and I

Happy Birthday, Elizabeth!

We celebrated Elizabeth's first birthday in LA. She looked really cute in her first Han-Bok (Korean traditional clothing) that I almost wished that I had one just the same. We were so worried about her crying during the party that we were determined to keep her happy as well as we could, which meant that I had to hold her the entire time. Gosh, it was so tiring! I was sweating in my Han-Bok. But at least she was better than we expected. She didn't cry and she kept her hat on (most of the time!). Great job!

With the Korean tradition, when a baby reaches her first birthday, he/she gets to choose between rice (plenty of food in life), thread (long life), money (prosperity), pencil (academic) and these days people even put out more creative objects like the stethoscope, golf ball, toothbrush, etc. And this time around, we got rice, thread, money, pencil, computer mouse, and a toy hammer (for law). We all guessed that she would have picked the rice (because she loves to pick up tiny things from the floor and put into her mouth) or the toy hammer (because it was very colorful and new to her). She was going after the toy hammer but to our surprise, she picked up the pencil instead. So, both Liz and David chose pencils. It was very surprising indeed because throughout the party, she didn't eye on the pencil for once.
Overall, she did good, better than our expectation.

Update on the kids

David loves to pile up cushions and blankets on the floor. Then he would jump on them, dive into them and sleep on them. Elizabeth would crawl to the pile and put her head down and lay down too. At least this is one of the things they have agreement in.

After weeks of haunting Pottery Barn Kids's website, I finally found a good sale on the soft seats. David now has a new sofa and we can get rid of the old one which he pee-ed and pooped on during those potty training days. He loves it and Liz loves it too.

Liz is pretty good in feeding herself. She has been munching on noodles, rice, chicken and beef on her own lately. The food keeps her busy that we all get to eat peacefully. Though towards the end, she usually pours out the rest of the food and throws down the bowl. Sigh*
